Golf and Country Club offers players three different
environments throughout the course. The 6,839
total yardage (6,314 meters) is 72 par. The first
nine holes play inland and uphill, through dense
tropical vegetation, providing magnificent views
of the Nusa Dua tourism enclave below, and on
a clear day, the distant mountains. Course architects
Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, of Hawaii, incorporated
low, hand-built stone walls to terrace the fairways
and tee boxes, emulating rice fields in the countryside.
Holes 10 through 16 follow gently
sculpted fairways through a mature cooconut grove.
The palms, some as tall as 100 feet ( 31 meters
0, provide vertical definition for the course.
The last set of holes, 17 and 18, are seaside.
The former plays out to the beach and blue Indian
Ocean, usually into the wind, while the latter
plys back from the beach to the club house, along
a 16-acre lake.
Inaugurated
in 1991, the course in 1994 hosted the Alfred
Dunhill Masters, with Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomery,
and the Johnny Walker Skins, with Ian Woosnam
and Vijay Singh. Club facilities include a driving
range, two putting greens and a chipping practice
green. Caddies and carts are required, and the
cart cooler box is stocked with beverages. The
Clubhouse has a bar and restaurant. Two half-way
cafes serve light meals. Locker rooms have showers
and changing facilities. A pro shop, spa and 27-yard
(25-meter) swimming pool complete facilities.
